MAI On Cost of Vehicle Ownership in Malaysia

Copied from http://www.cbt.com.my/2012/12/19/mai-on-cost-of-vehicle-ownership-in-malaysia
at 20-12-2012 - My point of you that this article is most logic on Cost of Vehicle. So don't be so sad, our car is not that expensive what we had tot.
              __________________________________________________________________
Contrary to popular belief, Malaysia has one of the lowest total cost of vehicle ownership in the region.
This is according to the Malaysia Automotive Association (MAI) study in February on the cost of vehicle ownership (CVO).
Understandably, many were doubtful of the findings and wondered if it was a case of clever statistical play.
Malaysians believe that the cost of owning a car in the country is among the highest in the world. Even Cars, Bikes and Trucks have our own fair share of doubt.
For instance, when Proton introduced the Preve to Australia, it was offered at a starting price of A$18,990 (RM60,140).
According to the 2011 Australian Census data, the average Australian household makes A$4,936 (RM15,600) a month. A Proton Preve would be equivalent to about four months salary, affordable enough to be purchased with cash.
In Malaysia, where the average household income is RM4,025 (Department of Statistics figures), the Preve sells from RM59,990, translating to about 15 months salary.
With this background, we spoke to MAI chief executive officer Madani Sahari to better understand the CVO study.
Madani's team even provided us with a detailed breakdown of the numbers used in the CVO study, not just for one car model, but eight different models from five different segments, made by five different carmakers.
To ensure that the study was representative of the Malaysian market, all models selected for benchmarking were either the top or top two best selling models in their representative segment.
As different markets had slightly different requirements and priorities, specifications of the vehicles compared may differ slightly.
The accompanying table gives more information. The figures are projected based on a five-year ownership period.
Right click to enlarge.
The best selling non-national car in Malaysia is the Toyota Vios. Toyota's entry level sedan is sold across Asean and thus the model is ideal for a benchmarking study.
A Toyota Vios 1.5G retails in Malaysia for RM87,313. The same model is sold at a significantly cheaper price of RM69,000 in Thailand and RM78,550 in Indonesia.
MAI noted that interest rate on car loans in Thailand is around 4.5 per cent while in Indonesia the rate is 5 per cent.
Over a five-year period, the Vios cost 80 per cent more to insure in Thailand: RM22,823 compared to RM12,500 in Malaysia. Indonesian Vios owners pay RM22,500 to insure a Vios 1.5G.
Malaysian drivers also pay a rather low road tax, at only RM90 per year for a 1.5-litre sedan like the Toyota Vios. Over a five-year period, this amounts to only RM450.
Thai and Indonesian Vios owners pay an equivalent of RM1,400 and RM1,571 respectively.
In Malaysia, RON95 grade fuel is subsidised to the tune of around RM0.70 per litre while sales tax is waived.
And with subsidised fuel, Malaysian Vios owners enjoy the second lowest ownership cost in the region, after Philippines.
A Thai and Indonesian Vios owner will have to pay 13 and 18 per cent higher respectively.
When considering a scenario where fuel subsidy is removed, Malaysian Vios owners would still pay six per cent less than Thai owners and 10 per cent less than Indonesian owners.
At point of publishing, Thai motorists pay an equivalent of RM4.30 per litre for RON91 petrol while Indonesia motorists pay RM2.80 per litre for RON92 petrol. Both countries impose excise duties on transport fuel.
Having said that, MAI recognised that one factor that was not included in this study is toll charges.
Madani explained that it would be very difficult to key in toll charges paid by the average Malaysian. Most tolled roads are located within Klang Valley and are not applicable to residents in other city centres.
However, Madani said that for the sake of comparison, RM10 per day can be added for toll charges. Multiply that by five working days per week and four weeks a month, toll charges will total up to around RM12,000 over a period of five years.
Even after factoring toll charges, the total cost of vehicle ownership in Malaysia is within comparable distance with our neighbours.
The CVO study was conducted earlier this year but since then there have been a number of changes affecting car prices in the region.
Effective June 15 this year, the Indonesian Central Bank introduced a new financial lending guideline requiring a 30 per cent deposit for non-commercial use four-wheeler motor vehicles. Commercial vehicles require a slightly lower 20 per cent downpayment.
Interest rates for car loans are now between seven and nine per cent.

Below are the good answer given by admin on one of the questions given
Well how many brands are selling a comparable model? Read our accompanying story on the need for competition, linked at the bottom of the story. You wouldn't expect car companies to do charity so buyers like yourself can buy them at cheaper prices do you?
Plus, from a market positioning point of view, there is no way Toyota will price the Prius in the same range as a Vios or a Corolla Altis.
The US is an extremely competitive open market. It sells more than 15 million cars a year versus 600,000 in Malaysia. So there is also the scale issue and the type of discounts US importers can haggle with Japan.
It's like you walk into a store and asks for the best price for 10 units while the American and Chinese fella next to you says 'Give me 100 units and I want them delivered next week. Don't waste time talking about price I have 100 more orders coming next month, if you can deliver on my time then we can talk.'
For these high volume importers, the issue is not about the price, but how soon they can get their delivery. As a manufacturer, for sure you will cut steep discounts for them.
How you think the Malaysian importer is going to get a good price?

SapuraKencana terus perkukuh kedudukan

Ia bakal memiliki 21 pelantar gerudi berbanding hanya empat dimiliki pesaing terdekatnya.

But will strange thing is that after you commented out the line, it turns out that service becomes unstoppable, and also its uninstall from the Service Control Panel is deferred to next reboot.

When buying a car, Is buying for resale

I agree this article that way I copied it into my blog

Buying for resale

October 24, 2012

So my friend Richard really wanted a BMW but he settled for another car because he thought it had better resale value.
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — When I bought my trusty ol’ Proton Gen.2 in an eye-searing shade of turquoise, my friends baulked and remarked that I was a particularly brave soul for buying the car in that colour.
“You’re gonna get hit when you try to sell that on, mate. No one’s gonna buy a turquoise car. Or a Gen.2 for that matter. Not when you can get a Persona for the same price!”
This of course came from friends who oddly enough, drove cars that they didn’t exactly fancy. Which were invariably silver in colour, even though it was nowhere near their colour of choice.
I’ve always found this piece of advice mind-boggling. And to a smaller extent, annoying. I for one am a staunch believer of automotive democracy. You simply buy and drive what you want. But this concept, apparently, rarely ever applies in the world where everyone else seems to live.

Another friend, Janet, still looks longingly at the Kia Optima each time she spots one.
Janet, an ex-colleague. Fancies dark graphite grey on cars. And she actually thinks the Kia Optima K5 looks like a million bucks in that colour. But instead of putting her hard-earned cash on a car she wanted, she ordered a silver Camry instead.
Richard, a friend from high school, drives a gold-hued Mercedes. He fancies green. And turns the same shade when he sees someone zoom by in a BMW.
Ron, my friendly purveyor of fine suits and such, drives a grey Honda CR-V. He actually fancies a searing orange Kia Sportage.
What do all the above have in common, you may well ask. Well, all of these blokes and lasses bought what they thought would fetch a better price at resale. So they ended up with “safe” colours on “safe” cars.
And I have a serious issue with this. How one could agonise for hours deciding the exact shade of mauve that should be on a RM69.90 shirt and yet spend upwards of RM100k on a “default” colour and brand choice based on resale value simply escapes me.
I’ve always believed that one should buy what one fancies. And if that happens to be a turquoise Mercedes, so be it. I reckon far too many purchasing decisions in the automotive world these days are governed by those awful two words called “resale value”.
Sure, a Toyota may command a bit more at trade-in than a Kia. But would you seriously sentence yourself to five to nine years of facing a greige interior with hideous orange-hued wood trim, and driving dynamics only your grandmother would appreciate in the name of resale?
Would you commit yourself to the grey cloth-upholstered monotony of a Honda when for a couple of thousand LESS, you could be in the lush leather clad cabin of a Kia?
Would you commit yourself to the stoic yet starkly middle-age driving environment of a Mercedes E-class when the wild, techno-infested interior of a BMW 5-series could be yours for the same price?
The question that begs to be asked, therefore, is this: Why in the world do we let our car’s NEXT owner decide what kind of car we drive for the immediate five to nine years?
I reckon it’s because of this myopic need to see everything one buys as an “investment” of sorts. That one must maximise the returns on anything one buys in life. Everyone seems to end up treating cars like houses.
This, ladies and gents, is the biggest single killer of motoring joy.
For my friend Janet, she openly acknowledges she’s getting the raw end of the bargain with the Camry. For the RM160k she’s forking out for the car, she’s getting a 2.0 litre engine coupled to an ancient four-speed automatic. She still has to use a key to start her car. She gets just two airbags to protect her in a crash. And the car has the distinction of being one of the rare cars in its class NOT to have stability or traction control.
For no less than twenty thousand ringgit LESS — yes, you read that right — RM20,000 — a Kia Optima would have given her a 2.0 litre engine paired with a modern six-speed auto. She would have gotten keyless entry. She would have had no less than SIX airbags to keep her safe in a crash and more importantly, a full suite of stability and traction assist systems to keep her car pointing straight and true even in the worst conditions. The folks at Kia even saw it fit to throw in a full-length panoramic sunroof for good measure.
And don’t for a second think Korean cars are any less well built than their Japanese counterparts. The Kia Optima (and to a lesser extent, its sister car, the Hyundai Sonata), I reckon, has the best interior amongst its non-European competitors. Where the Japanese would use hard, unyielding plastics, Kia puts padded, plush, squishy plastics that simply reeks of quality, even if it remains short of the quality standards on show in, let’s say, a Peugeot 508.
But still... I think a point that has to be made here is this:
A car is NOT an investment.
A car is NOT an investment.
A car is NOT an investment.
Repeat that and get used to it. And once you do, stop feeling guilty about buying something that will give you just minimum return on your initial payment when it’s time to trade up.
There’s a reason, after all, why car loans are called “hire purchase”. You essentially rent the car, and at the end of the day, make one final payment to own it outright. When you look at a car purchase as a rental arrangement, resale consideration becomes less of an issue, since whatever resale value you get out of it at the end of the day is actually just a bonus.
When was the last time you rented a house for five years and ended up owning it on your last day of your tenancy?
Resale value is massively over-hyped. I say drive what you want. In any colour you want. If no one else appreciates your taste in car and colour, so be it.
So Janet, if you’re reading this. Might I persuade you to still consider the Kia?

How do I get the date a file was last modified?

below info was copied from www.jb.man.ac.uk/~slowe/cpp/lastmod.html for my reference in future
I wanted to be able to use the date that a file was last modified, to set the filename of another file. It took me quite a while to find out how to get hold of the date and it turns out that there are three dates on UNIX/Linux. You can use the stat()function.

#include <sys/stat.h>

#include <unistd.h>

#include <time.h>

Mengenai lagu Negaraku, Terang Bulan

Mengenai lagu Negaraku, Terang Bulan.... terdapat kekeliruan fakta disini...
Tetapi seharusnya
1... (sekitar 1888)
2... (sekitar 1920 - 30an)
